All Pizzas Win Hearts, But Only One Wins the Pizza Bowl

Who doesn’t love pizza? We bet you’ll be hungry for it by the time you finish reading this if you’re not already. If you’re looking for the best pizza in New Jersey, the answer is provided by the annual Pizza Bowl. Yes, an actual Pizza Bowl. This year, the top prize went to Coniglio’s Old Fashioned, a Morristown pizzeria that’s only been open for a few months.

The Pizza Place

Owned by Nino Coniglio, a pizza-making veteran with six successful NYC pizza shops under his belt, this pizza joint has been serving delicious pies ever since he was 14 years old. You will find the authentic taste of Italian cuisine in the food you have here, all thanks to the high-quality ingredients. He uses local Jersey mozzarella, Caputo 00 flour with fermented yeast, and San Marzano tomatoes. And the toppings? Oh boy!

The Toppings

From the classic Brooklyn (mozzarella, tomato sauce, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and basil) to the Meatball Ricotta (housemade meatballs, tomato sauce, mozzarella, and ricotta) to the famous square-shaped Upside Down Sicilian (mozzarella, tomato sauce, and Pecorino Romano), there is everything! We mean everything! If you are able to take your hands (read: mouth) off the Conilio Pizza, the restaurant also serves some non-pizza dishes. Eggplant Parm (parmigiana di Melanzane), chicken parm, and Coniglio’s family recipe of spaghetti and meatballs are some of the local favorites.

The Winners

With so much pizza variety throughout the state, it’s no wonder that the Pizza Bowl had over 250 pies sampled and 40 judges, including Goodfellas actor Joseph D’Onofrio, assessing the competition. If you want to take your pizza mania to the next level, head to Pizzeria in Masanielli, the number one-ranked pizzeria in the world, located in a small city outside Naples. But if you’re looking for the best pizza in New Jersey, head to Coniglio’s Old Fashioned and grab a slice (or two, or three), and join the pizza party in New Jersey!
